The project consists in the assessment and renovation of Clark Gym, a building located on South Campus at UB. The objective is to transform the building into a wellness hub, by reusing the existing gym facilities as well as adding new programmatic elements such as PTSD counseling services, product testing, rehabilitation as well as new exercise activities. The project works in partnership with the US department of Veteran Affairs, which has offices directly in front of the campus.

The objective of this project was to create a physical connection between Hayes Hall and Crosby Hall, the two main buildings hosting the School of Architecture and Planning at UB. This bridge between the buildings works as a student innovator and connector in which current students, recent graduates, faculty members are well as other organization can collaborate and work together. The main programmatic elements of this addition are a large fabrication workshop, a student lounge, an incubator space, as well as a smart lab and a new space for the IDeA Center (Inclusive Design and environmental Access center).

Flowstead is a high-tech incubator center donated by Jezz Bezos that focuses on developing inclusive design and research. Professional equipment is available and students can rent offices to start their own business at lower price. Regular product demonstrations are often organized to promote student-to-company connections. The building form was inspired by the shapes of waves, and the glazing on the facade was chosen to let people see what’s happeing in each workshop in order to attract more students to join the program, and attract potential clients.

Many companies, such as Microsoft and Apple, started in garages. The idea behind this incubator is to use the garage setting as the start of innovation, to design a space for students willing to start small businesses in the field of automotive technology. The facility includes a cafe and a kitchen, a locker room, a cooled server room, a computer lab, a large meeting room, six medium meeting rooms, a small meeting room, a workshop, an event space and a private maker space. The prototypes fabricated in the incubator can then be tested in mutliple conditions thanks to the proximity of UB North Campus from both suburban and urban areas, as well as a highway.
