The LiveLearnWork residence hall advertises various experiences of social integration enhanced by the use biophilic design features. The building is composed of two double loaded corridors that overlap at the center to create a unique multi-leveled social space, a multi-story interior courtyard with a green wall. This courtyard makes the connection between the incubator, on the lower level, and the learning and living spaces on the upper floors of the building.

The UB2020 Master Plan calls for the transformation of Lee Road to a main street corridor, complete with on street parking, commerce,  shuttle services and student housing. As a critique to this objective, a proposed 800’ bar building allocates displaced tenants from the UB Commons and Bookstore along a pedestrian colonnade. The structure runs North/South with lower density residential halls angled perpendicular to the bar structure. These South West/ North East structures define 3 collegiate courtyards of varying scales and program. The orientation offers to the residents views and access to an urban edge to the west and a natural edge to the east.

The dichotomy of the complex comes from the access and views of these differing edge conditions. Lounge, study, amenity and living spaces all alternate or blend their orientation between urban and natural allowing one to inhabit the one they are most comfortable with. An Urban edge allows one to see and be seen and promotes socialization where seclusion and quiet can be found along the natural edges.

The project focuses on views on campus that influence social interaction and integration. The residence hall house all level students and holds a social stair, a start-up space and a greenhouse, which are three compenents currently missing on UB North Campus. Biophilic design principles are used to create an inclusive and  welcoming building for both residence faculty and users.

The objective of this project is to provide an inclusive space on campus for students to live, eat and exercise. On the ground floor, all programs are opened to the public, and  connected via heated glass bridges, to invite public usage of both the programs and the courtyards. The dorms are located on the upper floors, where students are divided based on the year they’re in. All residents have direct access to the courtyards and the building offers views across the lake.
