Inspired by the existing innovation center, the idea of IC2 (Innovation Center 2) is to make connections between different users of the center; one to one, group to group, and company to company. Creating bridges between the incubator spaces and the post incubator spaces, metaphorically and physically is the concept of this project. Those in-between bridges will form the informal work areas, where collaboration and team work are more needed. The project also includes break areas and lounges.

The goals of this project were to integrate, organize and accommodate many types of people using and passing through the building and site, accommodate many different types of work and working styles, create public spaces that are utilized, and connect the building on the site to the aesthetics and pedestrian access of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. An art gallery was added to the program to create a mental escape for building occupants and to promote social integration and wellness. The public space is centrally located and visible from all parts of the innovation center.

The Innovation Center is a business incubator, a place for people with ideas to start companies related to research and development. Using data collected from post occupancy evaluations of the current innovation center, major ideas that were present in that design were modified to fix portions that were under used. The design, placed on a 1,500 car parking garage that also acts as an active transportation hub to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus of Buffalo, NY, stresses the connection between different companies and their relation to each other through a hierarchy of spaces. The main atrium acts as a services hub and an informal meeting space to the office spaces.
