The main driving concept of this building is to attract guests that are in the area into the building. The architectural plan of the building is designed around the scheme of Spectacle as Movement, by placing all interior circulation to the perimeter; while at the same time maximizing sight lines of outside sightseers to visitors of the museum moving around. This gesture makes the visitors a spectacle to Canal Side. Explore and More acts as a catalyst by bringing more life to the streets and area of Canal Side.

The Buffalo Explore n’More children’s museum is a prospected project for the canalside of Buffalo that is in the early design phase by a local architect. The goal of the studio was to design a museum to give new design concepts and ideas to the local firm that is working on the project. The major design concept of this project was to start with the volume of the site extruded and subtract based on site conditions and programmatic needs.

The design proposes a new destination for children and their families. The idea derives from TOYS BLOCKS, which make the museum like a small community for children to learn and play. Building combined with six main blocks creates both large exhibits spaces and small ones. This unique profile attracts children to come. Twisted blocks provide opportunity to view different orientations from inside to outside. The outside spaces between blocks are designed for entrances, outdoors exhibit, playground and dining. Roof garden and green house are the pubic platform for visitors and office workers in both summer and winter.

Located in Buffalo’s up-and-coming Canalside district, the Explore n’More Children’s Museum is a family-friendly destination for visitors of all ages. Situated along the historic canal line, the form and structural design of the building references the industrial center that once occupied the waterfront. With three stories of museum program and two stories of leasable office space, the design of the Explore & More proposal allows for maximum flexibility in the partitioning of space, programmed use of space, and visitor experience. The children’s museum reintroduces learning and play back to Buffalo’s beloved waterfront.
