Reinventing the old

ARC605 | Spring 2010
Professor Kenneth MacKay

The focus of the semester was the design of a new kind of health care building for older people. The concept combined a visitor center for Buffalo with a place for older adults in the community where they can find all the services they need. The idea is to provide “one stop shopping” for services and facilitate collaboration and partnerships. Additional facilities in the building include social, recreation and wellness services for independent seniors and a day care program for older people with more serious impairments. The inclusion of these services would attract a wide range of elders. The visitors’ center would attract all ages to the site and provide a true “town square” environment.
